The unit coordinates overall planning and execution of livestock development programs for the regional Dzongkhags and manages regional targets for annual performance system in the region. It ensures adequate and appropriate support to the organization as a whole to focus on its core technical units and regional Dzongkhags to effectively and efficiently attain their targets through provision of administrative and financial services.
The unit identifies potential livestock projects; develop project proposals and source for fund supports required by the technical units, regional Dzongkhags and farmers/entrepreneurs in consultation with the department and relevant agencies.
The unit is mainly responsible for planning, execution and monitoring of disease prevention and control programs in the regional Dzongkhags in consultation with the Animal Health Division and National centre for Animal Health. The unit provides specialized technical services on animal health activities to the regional Dzongkhags including implementation of essential veterinary drug program (EVDP) and animal health related trainings in the region.
The unit is responsible to coordinate, plan and execute feed and fodder development activities in the regional Dzongkhags in consultation with the Animal Nutrition Division and relevant agencies under the Department. It provides specialized technical services related to animal nutrition development programs to the farmers and client Dzongkhags in the region mainly through feed and fodder development supports, fodder conservation technologies and enhancing technical capacities.
The unit coordinates demand and supply collection and forecast for livestock input requirement for development in the regional Dzongkhags, manage and analyze livestock development information, provide feedbacks and maintain database on livestock information in the region.
The unit is responsible for planning, execution and monitoring of post production activities and facilitate in developing marketing avenues and market linkages for the livestock products generated by the regional Dzongkhags in consultation with Livestock Production Division and relevant agencies. It executes product diversification activities and value chain management in the region and ensures continuous production and supply system. The unit is also mandated to provide specialized technical services in production, reproduction and breed improvement programs for$ the regional Dzongkhags.
The Thromde Veterinary Hospital & Satellite Laboratory (TVH&SL) in Gelephu is mainly responsible for execution and monitoring of disease prevention and control programs in Sarpang Dzongkhag in east-central region. It also provides specialized technical services on animal health activities including EVDP and diagnostic services, animal production, breed improvement activities and post-production & marketing supports in Sarpang Dzongkhag in consultation with RLDC, Zhemgang.
